Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A 36-year-old man from Bihar was arrested near Howrah Railway Station on Monday evening by a team of the West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) during a raid based on specific information. The accused, identified as Md Mahtab, is a resident of Akbarnagar in Bihar. The arrest took place in the vicinity of the station as part of an operation to curb illegal arms movement across state borders.
Two one-shot pipe guns and 42 rounds of live ammunition of 8MM KF bore were recovered from the possession of the accused. STF officials confirmed that the seized items were illegal firearms and ammunition. The recovered materials have been taken into custody for forensic and ballistic examination.
During preliminary questioning, the accused stated that the arms and ammunition were procured from Bihar and were meant to be supplied illegally in West Bengal. A case has been registered at STF West Bengal Headquarters Police Station. Investigation is underway to identify others involved in the arms smuggling network.
